Timber plantations are environmentally friendly, sustainable production systems for farming wood. The Australian Federal and State government forestry agencies have in place a set of national principals for the management of timber plantations. These can be read in full at the internet website: www.daff.gov.au/forestry. These principals provide the framework for scientifically sound plantation management and encompass a range of important environmental, socioeconomic and cultural issues.
Plantation growers are required to comply with a variety of State laws regulating soil and native vegetation conservation, occupational health and safety, fire control and the management and safe use of approved pesticides. (Source: www.plantations2020.com.au)
